Dude on the Beach was Like an Artist in the Sand

Ryukyu Rusty spotted this guy throwing sand out of a big hole on Zanpamisaki Beach in Okinawa, Japan today.   Hah, I must have been looking for other things to shoot.  What was I thinking ?

Wondering if there was any water in the hole,  off the shoreline, I had to get up close. Nope, not yet.

The dude was digging with his bare hands and slinging sand every which way, like his life depended on it.

Here, I turned on the camera flash so I could get some shutter speed and you could see down there.

Two gals came over and started talking to me and I found out they were classmates of the dude in the hole.  They are all college students from the Okinawa Prefectural University of Arts. The girls names were Mei and Hiroka and they were very helpful getting me permission to post the guy's photo on my blog.  His name is Itosu Ryutaro.  The dude was really like an artist in the sand.

Danged, if I didn't get so busy shooting this guy throwing sand out of the hole in the beach, I forgot to snap a few of the gals.  But, they weren't wearing bikinis or anything like that so, who cares?

Ryan,
Aw, they were sweet and I promised to email a link to this. Hope they don't ask me to help translate the funny english y'all use over there in Scotland. Bloody students may meean something different from the redneck english I use!

I lived in Okinawa for 4 of the best years of my life. My father was Air Force stationed at Kadena and I spent 7th through 10th grade there. Hands down my favorite place in the world I've ever been. If I ever went back, I'm fairly certain I'd never leave.

Travis,
It's good to hear from people who've been on Okinawa and loved the island. I hope you enjoy visiting through my photos until you can make it back here in person.
