Even if I wanted B&W to be the final outcome, I would shoot in color first and convert later.
Some photographers would argue the point. But, I shoot RAW format, always. The data I capture in RAW allows me to do alot with the tones (highlights and shadows) as well as keep the file to produce as many variations as I'd like when I create the JPEGs.
Someone may see my B&W photo and ask if it's available in color. My answer would be "yes".
I hope this answers your question.

Cheers,
MikeRyukyuMikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06274885659789720372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3603293883718966986.post-16690430888682809502011-01-26T21:04:08.903-08:002011-01-26T21:04:08.903-08:00I'm bad at judging B&W vs color. Your advice would be very much appreciated!Evan Bennerhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13103946721873376507noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3603293883718966986.post-69334154602615642992011-01-25T17:38:16.160-08:002011-01-25T17:38:16.160-08:00Sorry Mike. I prefer blue skies and sometimes when you don't have the right colors and contrast many folks use the B&W option ts salvage an otherwise good photo.RyukyuMikehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06274885659789720372noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3603293883718966986.post-14418099763680182402011-01-25T11:38:24.968-08:002011-01-25T11:38:24.968-08:00Love the light behind the treesLove the light behind the treeshalhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05094694103452217834noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3603293883718966986.post-46491224566412664592011-01-24T18:00:20.962-08:002011-01-24T18:00:20.962-08:00Gene,
