Todoroki Waterfall (轟の滝) in the Rain (Images)

This waterfall, in Nago Okinawa looks plenty different during rainy season.

The roar, of the falls, can be heard from far away.

Ice cold water splashes over the rocks.

There's no sense trying to get close for photos. Your camera will get wet.

Moving around on the banks of the place was enough fun for me.

 Here's a shot showing where all that water goes.

 Plan a picnic and you could sit here to eat lunch, on a nice sunny day.

It's a good thing that bridge is there for crossing to the other side.

It doesn't look too deep but, I bet the raging river would knock a person down.

If you haven't seen Todoroki Waterfall in the rain, you have no idea what you're missing.

Recommendation: Bring an umbrella or, wear a wetsuit !

Then and Now (Photos) Todoroki Waterfall (轟の滝) Okinawa

This photo of Todoroki Waterfall (轟の滝) in Nago Okinawa, Japan was taken sometime around 1966 or 67 by a photographer I recently became acquainted with through the miracle we call the Worldwide Web.

If you like good old fashioned film photography, as much as I do, you'll be able to enjoy hours upon hours seeing what Okinawa looked like back in the years 1945 through 1972 on his website.

Donn, has given his consent to allow me the use of his photos for a project I've been wanting to do for a very long time.

It will be a series of Then and Now Photos  taken on the island of Okinawa, Japan.

Here is a an example of what I plan on doing.

My usual large horizontal photos are coming, soon.  Standby.....

This photo was taken October 23, 2011.

That would be some 45 years later.

Over the years, naturally, erosion has occurred.

The Kanji character ( 勇) for Brave or
Courageous has disappeared from the large boulder at the base of the falls.

Vegetation changes with the seasons and typhoons may move some trees around.

Moss grows on the boulders and stones.

But one thing never changes.

Todoroki (轟)means "roar".

Todoroki Waterfall (轟の滝) is still roaring, today.

More Then and Now Photos

Cherry Blossoms (桜) and Waterfalls (滝) in Okinawa, Japan

Today's report on the Cherry Blossom (桜) situation up in the northern mountains is a little brighter.  Looking at Mt. Yadake crews could be seen setting up the festival tents for the Sakura Matsuri ( Festival ) and that's a good sign the place will get busy this weekend.

This photo with just a few Sakura (桜) blossoms on it was taken in Nago, before even heading up to Mt. Yadake.  So, I expect to see lots of Cherry Blossoms on Mt. Nago by the end of the month.

The reason I went north today wasn't really to shoot Cherry Blossoms.

It was to check out Todoroki Waterfall (轟の滝) one more time.

Shooting the falls from some different angles was the plan.

This photo with the waterfalls in the left third of the frame was one of my favorites.

But, you won't catch me trying to duplicate this shot for awhile.

I'm sitting here with a bag of ice tied to my back because I slipped and fell on the rocks trying to come back down after taking the shot.  Dagnabbit !

The moral of this story is old folks should stick to taking photos of Cherry Blossoms.

Let younger folks climb hills to take pictures of waterfalls would be a good idea, I guess.
