How to Smooth Talk in a Papaya Field

You Can't Just Walk in and Shoot Papayas

Back in August when we ran across these little papaya trees I had to shoot them.

Months earlier, I had taken a photo of me standing next to a big papaya tree.

It had been a long time, waiting for the right weather to get a photo of these little papaya trees.

It was time to do some smooth talking so I could get this done for my blog.

I wanted to show a comparison in the sizes of these trees.

RyukyuRusty had to stop the car and let me out.

Before setting up a tripod, I asked the farmer's permission, to take a photo.

That way, we wouldn't look like some sort of criminals, just tresspassing.

Rusty got the shot of me by the papaya and I went over to talk the the farmer.

What I didn't know was:  The rascal kept on shooting while I was over there.

There I was flailing around telling the guy what nice trees he had.

And showing him how a typhoon came along and broke my first papaya tree.

Matsuda thought I was some kind of foreign dancer, I bet.

That's because, I wiggle around a lot when I get excited.

He had a good laugh.  And, Rusty was probably laughing, too, while he was shooting.

Before I left, I had to ask Matsuda, again, what his name was.

That's because I hear about as good as a rock, these days.

So, he yelled "Matsuda".

Then, I thanked him for the fruit he gave me and told him not to worry about my ears.

It comes in handy when you get old.

If you can't hear, you don't have to sit around the house listening to the wife yapping away.

We had a blast.

Everybody should try smooth talking in a papaya field, someday !

Tree Photos: Papaya the Tree That's Good for Your Health

Today I'm just posting a few photos of papaya trees to give you an example of the size.

The tree in the photo above is too tall for me to pick the fruits without using a ladder.

My first papaya tree must have been ten meters (30ft) tall when it had fruits ready to pick.

Then, along came a typhoon.  And snapped the tree right in half.

So, I decided, to keep myself healthy, I'd quit planting papaya.

Nowadays they've come up with papaya trees that are a lot shorter.

Hah.  I'd be breaking my back bending over to pick them !

Matsudasan, the farmer in the background, was real nice to me.

He gave me a papaya to take home and wouldn't let me pay for it.

Instead of me trying to give a lecture on the health benefits of papaya, read this:

Do you know traditional medicine could probably put big drug companies out of business ?

That's what I'd be worried about if I was one of them.

On Motobu Peninsula with the Sigma 50-500mm Lens

This photo of rice harvested and hanging out to dry was taken with the Sigma 50-500mm.

RyukyuRusty and I went to the Motobu Peninsula to get some information.

Normally I wouldn't use such a large lens for this type of photo.

It was cranked all the way down to 50mm for this shot.

A little farther out, at 138mm, I took this photo of a family doing the harvesting.

For some reason it looked like a husband and wife team hanging up the rice crop.

We see couples working the fields together all the time.

Rusty and I got going in different directions checking out the area.

When we met again he said, "See the bamboo poles fall when the wife put too much rice on the rack?"

"Nope, I missed it.  But, I bet she caught holy hell from the farmer," I said.

Lucky me, I found these scarecrows taking a break and shot a photo of them at 50mm.

While developing today's photos I discovered there wasn't any wife in the above pictures.

And it made me feel like a real dummy.

Do you suppose a person could make a decent living being hired as a scarecrow ?
