Wordless Wednesday: Not Too Muddy

Almost Missed the 2016 Kin Town Mud Festival

Tambo Fest (たんぼフエスヌ) in Japanese

Taking a leisurely stroll to reach the event, sounded like a good idea.

It started at 10AM and, was scheduled to last until 6PM.

Knowing the afternoon sun could get unbearable, I decided to show up in the late afternoon.

While I was walking in the shade of mangroves along the river, the weather took a turn.

It started sprinkling some raindrops on the scene so, people ran for cover.

These were the last four kids, left and, they were getting ready to hop in the shower.

Of course, I got parental consent to photograph the children.

But, I didn't get a signed model release from he lady.

Because, she was all muddy, too !

At the Mudfest Some Kids Just Stay Incredibly Clean (Images)

Maybe It's the Suncreen

 

It could be that mud and dirt wouldn't stick to them because the stuff is like that spray cooking oil.

A whole lot of space was used up on my memory card at the Kin Town Mudfest.

When I spotted these two kids, all clean-looking, I figured I was in for some action.

After an hour of shooting, slipping, sliding and, getting mud all over myself, I gave up on them.

They just wouldn't get dirty.

Down at the other end of  the flooded field was the place to be.

The guy in the yellow shirt looked reasonably clean, to me.

He was determined to get right in there and get his toes wet.

I figured he could make a pretty good splash.

And, he didn't let me down.

If you had the chance to be there, I wonder.

What kind of mud festival goer would you be ?

The Mud Festival in Kin Village was a blast today.

 1,000 photos were downloaded from the cameras.  Here's a teaser.

We had blue skies and temperate weather all day long and a good crowd showed up.

It's time for me to scrape off the mud I acquired and go downtown.

And have some good, clean fun.

Good Clean Fun for Golden Week

 

The Tambo Fest (たんぼフエスヌ) or, Mud Festival, is one of my favorite events of the year.

There are lots of things going on, like, live music, dancing, games of chance and food to eat.

All the stuff you'd see at any other festival on the island, they have at this one.

 

Only in Kin Town We Have Lots More

Tambo, is the Japanese word for rice field.

Some kind farmers decorate the place and, flood it for us.

Mostly kids but, anyone else, can join in and stir things up.

Play ball, ride a bike or.....

.....go diving, if you like.

The Mud Festival takes place Friday May 3, 2013 at Nature Mirai in Kin Town Okinawa.

It starts at 9AM and goes until 6PM.

It's a good idea to bring a towel and change of clothes but, you don't have to...

.....if you are one of those city people that doesn't know how to have real fun !

Twice Within a Week

It's been awhile since I've updated here. I've been too busy researching and typing on other people's blogs and neglecting my own.

It started paying-off, though. Twice in the past week my photos and attempts at writing have hit online travel magazines. This photo of a Mud Festival, along with another of dragonboat races got published at http://www.apogeephoto.com/

One thing I've learned, recently is that this internet thing, I'm always complaining about is a pretty handy tool when it comes to making contacts. You can meet all kinds of professional writers and photographers, help each other out, get published and avoid getting caught in scams (Which there are plenty of, out there).
