Ridea's Coming to Town

It was such a thrill running across this poster, I grabbed it and stuffed it in my pocket.

Getting all the wrinkles out takes too long. I have to pass the word quickly.

Ridea, will be here, at the Live House December 26, 2012.

Me and Maw, we need to get our dancin' shoes ready, now.

That Sweetheart of a Gal is in Tokyo Somewhere

 

Those city-slicker folks got her playin' concerts, far away from here.

Poor girl, only gets to come back to the Ryukyu Islands on weekends.

She's gonna be a superstar.  I know it.

So, me and the missus are making reservations.

We're goin dancin' that night.

And, I'll see if I can get an autograph from Ridea.

Maybe, even get someone in there with a video camera. 

Those city boys probably aren't aware of this.

Rednecks know some smooth moves, too !

The Million Views Contest Winner Announced

The Winner is Emi Iwasaki, a Facebook Fan from Tokyo, Japan !

This is a continuation of the events that took place Sunday night.

After the winner's name was drawn, the model ran around posing with it.

The Ryukyu Dudes let her have some fun and that was alright, I guess.

We weren't paying her.  So what the heck.

RyukyuRusty was shootin' the camera and the rest of us were drinking beer.

After awhile I yelled at her to quit fooling around and said.

"Would you please hold still and let the cameraman get a picture of the winner's name" ?

 Probably, I shouldn't of done that.

  She almost cried.

So, I went over there and gave her a l'il hug and everything went back to normal.

The tux is only worn for special occasions.

Now, I have to get the beer and wrinkles out of it before St. Patrick's Day.

 Probably, you wouldn't want to be so formal, if you did a redneck contest of your own.

Some of those Bib Overalls from Walmart would be OK.

I hate gettin' all dressed up, too. 

Back to the Winner

Emi Iwasaki tells me that she loves southern islands, especially Hawaii.

She studies and teaches Hawaiian Hula Dancing.

On a visit to Okinawa back in April, Emi found my Facebook Page.

So, she has been following and liking photos there all along, without me knowing.

Facebook should fix those pages for old people.  I don't like wearing my reading glasses.

Anyway, Emi typed in there "I want to see more of the Ryukyu Islands".

Wednesday Photo: A Symbol of Peace at UNESCO Sefa Utaki

Today I visited the the UNESCO World Heritage Site named Sefa Utaki in Okinawa, Japan.  It was one of the best photography days I've had in a long time and I'll probably keep every image that came out of my camera.  This photo is of a couple, Hiroshi and Natsumi who were visiting from Tokyo.  They smiled and gave the peace symbol not knowing how that drives foreign cameramen, like me, nuts.  But, they were friendly and complimented my photography so, I emailed them a file of this picture large enough to print.

Probably for the past five years, whether it was a weekday or a weekend, every time I have visited this site it has been impossible to catch the island in the background under clear skies. 

Barely visible, in the center of this photo, is Kudaka Jima.  That is the island Okinawans believe their ancestors came from. 

Catching it in this light was a dream come true for me and made it one of the best Wednesdays in my life.

Once I captured my fill of photos and headed back down the trail I smiled at everybody flipping peace symbols at cameras.

Hiroshi and Natsumi thanks for posing and I hope you enjoyed your stay.  Visit Okinawa again, sometime and I'll pose and let you snap a picture of me flipping the peace symbol wherever you'd like !
