Moon -- Tide and Wind GIFs from Nov 7, 2014

Not especially fond of clouds, covering the full moon but, they do add something to the photo.

So, I take plenty of extra shots to, make these GIFs.

Earlier in the day, this was how the tide appeared on Kouri Island.

Taking a few steps back, I included these fishing floats in a scene.

That's just to show, we had a little breeze, blowing that day.

These photos were taken with a Sigma 50-500 at various focal lengths.

Viewing Hedo Point After Typhoon Wipha

The typhoon breezed on by Okinawa without causing much harm.

Driving to the far north of the island we noticed some big waves at Hedo Misaki.

Setting up a tripod near this monument, seemed like a good idea.

We were standing, probably, 60 meters above sea level.

The winds were strong enough to send salt water, spraying in our faces.

So, I picked this spot where the wind would hit my back, not the camera.

Sea water isn't something you want to get on your DSLR or, the lens.

The little guy in the red shirt kept running through the scene.

You know, I'm Santa Claus, sometimes so, I have to be patient with the rascals.

Today I happened to be wearing a red shirt, too.

Well, Santa Claus, isn't supposed to be cussing around little kids.

So, I just kept whispering, "Dammit" to myself.

Finally, I caught one shot, where the kid disappeared behind the rocks.

By the time we left Hedo Point, Doc Graff and I had salt water all over our cameras.

Come again, sometime, and I'll show you what we do to fix that situation.

The Wind Can't Stop a Full Moon Shoot

 

 

A few typhoons are stirring things-up out there but, it's Obon in Okinawa, Japan.

Drum beats and Eisa dancing are going on out in the streets.

So, when I saw the moon peak through some fast-moving clouds I went and shot it.

The big Sigma 50-500 was only at 230mm for this shot.

When the wind is gusting, you have to do all you can, to steady the lens.

The longer, you stretch it out, the more it will shake.

For this shot, lens at 500mm, I flipped the camera on burst mode.

Then, fired away like I was some kind of lunatic !

Nov 8, 2011 Okinawa Earthquake: Cockadoodledo !

The breaking news, breaking headlines, breaking the record for being the first to report it are at it, again !

Just before noon today Nov 8, 2001 in Japan we had an earthquake rattle a few things on Okinawa.

But, all the breaking-wind people come from somewhere else.  So, they'll be calling this the great Okinawa Earthquake of Nov 7, 2011. 

Depending on which experts you listen to, the quake registered 6.8 or 6.9.

People who have their feet on the ground, in Okinawa, Japan aren't all that shook up.  The news agencies just enjoy making the rest of the world run around like chickens with their heads cut off.

Today, I was standing in the isle between the baked beans and the canned tomato sauce when the earthquake hit.  I had a camera hanging off my shoulder.  The quake rattled the cans for a few seconds but, nothing fell.  So, I never tried to catch any photos.

The Earthquake was a couple of hundred kilometers (136 miles) away from Okinawa and a couple of hundred kilometers (130 miles) under the ocean.

So, I'd like to ask CNN, FOX News, US Coast Guard and everybody else running around like chickens yapping cockadoodledo a question.

What would make a bigger ripple (tsunami) in the water, an earthquake over 200 kilometers under the water or someone farting in a waterbed ?

Ya'll should stick to reporting the real news and quit trying to make news up.

EVERYONE IN OKINAWA, JAPAN IS FINE AND UNHARMED BY THE QUAKE !

Typhoon Went Thataway. Rain and Wind Continue on Okinawa

Here's a photo taken from a seawall in Onna Son Okinawa, Japan at 2:24PM Saturday June 25, 2011.  The sun peeked through the clouds a few times today but, it's still windy and we're getting showers, on and off.

Looking at the weather maps for all the links provided by the US Embassy I'd say the typhoon is headed off to our northwest.  The rain and wind are just something typhoons drag along behind them, I guess.

When Ryukyu Rusty and I found this spot in the sun it was pretty windy so, I told him there's no sense in setting up a tripod. 

We walked out on the seawall a little ways and almost got blown into the East China Sea.  Hah !

To shoot a photo like this in the wind you just have to lay on your belly, get rid of the camera strap, set the camera on the ground and click with a cable release or the camera's timer.

The wind is still howling outside and I'm guessing it's got to be 35-40MPH but, should lessen some overnight.  We didn't see any major damage as we cruised around the island and even ran into busloads of tourists visiting all the major attractions on island.  Imagine being a tourist and having to spend two or three days of your vacation cooped-up in a hotel room instead of getting out to see all the sites you planned to hit.  That'd be a real bummer.

I bet the travelers are just as happy as I am that the typhoon left Okinawa and went thataway !
