Last Night's Grilled Smoking Chicken
Maybe I'll Be Late for My Own Funeral
The weekend is packed with festivals, rain in the forecast and, a full moon!
Yesterday, I walked through town, on the way home and made one stop.
Lousy weather has kept most people off the streets but, not me.
It seemed like a good idea (around sundown) to grab something to drink.
There weren't any customers in this tiny restaurant, other than me.
So, I ordered everybody a beer and we all said, "Kampai" that's "Cheers" in Japan.
Then, the chicken thing started happening and, some grilled steak, too.
Busy doing research and photo processing, I forgot all about the time, today.
Next thing you know, the sun's getting ready to go down, again.
A hundred projects are piled-up on my desk but, I have to run and shoot a festival.
It's too late, to organize a blog post so, I took this screenshot of Google Maps.
Either you can squint and read my review of Kitchen Brasil or, GO HERE
It's time for me to grab a camera and head out to a Christmas Festival Thingy!

Drivel Can Get Annoying on Facebook
It May Hurt Someone's Feelings
The "Like and Share" -- "Copy and Paste" Facebook hooligans did it again.
Each morning, I check the iPhone before, heading off to work, on a real computer.
It's nice, to get rid of all the junk mail and, peek at Facebook activity, while still at home.
There are Friends, photographers, writers and business associates, in my Facebook feed.
We share things, that may be of interest to other friends of ours. That's cool.
And, I'm sure, we all get our fair share of things, that ain't so interesting.
I might hit the "Like" button because, somebody taped their kid's picture on the fridge.
But, won't share it on my Timeline for everyone else, to see.
Like stuff, don't Like it; so far, we still have freedom of choices. And, that's cool, too.
Some, "Drivel" gets sent around, with your name tagged or via Facebook Messenger.
These days, it's hard to tell if, it really came from your friend or, a hacker.
Matter of fact, it could even be some Facebook marketing study, generating the drivel.
Human beings, have enough brains to Like or Share, whatever they want to.
If, they don't like something they probably, won't share it. Know what I mean ?
Robots can probably be programed, to do those sorts of things.
For Any Robot Friends Out There
Things that go around on Facebook labeled, Like and Share + Copy and Paste:
If, you have a son, daughter, grandchild, pet, you love with all your heart
If, you had a dog, cat or parakeet with an underarm rash
If, you know someone who is a nurse, teacher, doctor or, in the military
If, someone or, something you loved, died and went to heaven
If, you know a cancer victim or, someone with a fever
If, you agree or disagree with some political bullcrap, happening in some part of the world
If, everything should be free and nobody, should have to pay taxes
This Could Go On and On Indefinitely
Instead, I'll cut it short. Just remember, it has to be something emotional, tear-jerking.
The subject must be something, that grabs your attention for action.
Not really, a cold-blooded, heartless individual, I'm part human, too.
Should Facebook, ever decide, to let me filter out "Like/Share/Copy/Paste, I'd do it.
The Drivel pisses me off and sometimes, ruins my day.
Any Friends who, would like to Unfriend me because of this rant. Please do !
Just read this article, on your way out the door, concerning why, I consider you ROBOTS.
END OF RANT

Never Scan Another Document Again
Sometimes It's Something Valuable
It took a few years of where the flip-flops meet the road to get this one.
And, I've learned that a high resolution photo beats a scanner, every time.
It doesn't matter if, I'm doing research for a folk story or, historical event.
I like to go out there and see, whatever I'm writing about; take photos if possible.
It pays, to get out and sniff around, talk to locals and, get a feel for the culture.
This document will help me verify some facts, I've been chasing, for a long, long time.
When, I hang the page with a clipboard, on my door, it's easy to enlarge, what's important.
The image is taken at 7360 X 4912 pixels, using a Pentax K1 digital camera.
I'm not really worried about anyone stealing this valuable information, from me.
That's because, not many people can read it and, I've seriously lowered the resolution.
What I'm doing is tracking down the life history of a Ryukyu king, from way back.
The guy was a commoner, living on another island and, I went there, too.
Over there, I found out where he was born and, where his family is buried.
There's even a spot (I call) where his belly button got buried. OK, it's his umbilical cord.
Well, he left that island in a hurry and landed in this northern village on Okinawa.
And, I obtained this paperwork, I'm shooting, about a 30 second walk from his home, here.
The photo above, shows the setup, used, to digitize this prize piece of paper.
The most important stuff, on this page, I have to move closer, to capture with the camera.
To me, it's secret and, I don't want anybody else, to see what I have here.
Anything, you put on the internet, can become available to the whole wide world.
So, I make sure, nobody gets a copy of things, I want to keep hush about, until I'm ready.
What's My Not Scanned Document Look Like ?
Just to show you, how it comes out, when enlarged, I'll give you a sample.
Below is a screenshot, taken from a portion of the RAW photo file, when cropped.
The squiggles, you see, came from a paragraph of the document hanging on my wall.
They are legible but, have absolutely nothing to do, with the story, I'm working on.
It' just to show everyone, why you'll never see me using a scanner again.

Zuckerberganator Dudes and Dudettes -- I Ain't Buyin' It !

Promote it to get even better results.

Maybe, a few of my redneck cronies fall for the gimmick.
For anywhere from a dollar, to $30 a day y'all can give me a boost ?
I ain't buyin' it.
End of rant.
PS It would be nice if somebody could get those red bubbles, to quit moving around, too.

Getting that Google+ Setup Working Right Today !
They Ought to Give Away Honorary Guru Degrees
Figuring this stuff out without any geek-speak training is rough.
Except for a few minor adjustments, I think, I gotterdun.
Here is a screenshot of my Google+ page.
It looks pretty spiffy, the way they made the colors match my outfit and kept my fanny covered up.
Somebody at Google designed the background and I think, I'll just keep it that way.
The rest of the stuff, is what I spent two weeks working on.
Here Comes the Tricky Part
It seems like, if you write stuff, you have to establish yourself, as an author.
That Structured Data Testing Tool has to say:
"Authorship is working for this webpage."
Suppose you are an author who posts stuff on your own blog.
Then, you need that Testing Tool to give you credit for pushing the Publish Button, too.
The two samples above are shots of my blog.
Publisher mark up is verified and, authorship is working. Yay !
Moving On to the Website
Things got a little tricky here.
That rascal Structured Data Testing Tool didn't want to give my homepage authorship.
But, they did say, "Publisher markup is verified for this page."
So, I went and hooked up all the link stuff to my About Me page on the website.
And, I'll be danged if they didn't start calling me an author, over there !
Some Fine Tuning Remains to be Done
Like, BS University of Maryland should probably be changed to something different.
And, you should really have a profile picture that looks more true to life.
So, I thought I should ask my readers.
Should I show the world who I really am ?
As computer challenged as I am, here are a few links that simplified this transformation.
Get your Google+ working right, today.

The Redneck Goes High Tech on Pinterest
It Started with a Conversation About Resumes
A friend suggested making a one page resume of articles I've had published and posting it online.
That sort of high tech stuff scares me.
My website and blogs get cluttered-up enough without me trying to add more fancy stuff.
So, I experimented over on Pinterest and created this Board.
It doesn't look too shabby, to me so, I went and shared it over on Facebook.
That way, I'd get an idea if folks liked the way it looked.
Somehow, that Zuckerberganator guy had all 21 of my pins from that Board, already.
So, this old country boy, went and deleted them one at a time. Hah !
Facebook Gets on My Nerves Sometimes
They are probably more popular with youngsters and city folks than senior citizens.
It seems like, just about the time I start figuring out how it works, they change everything.
They better watch-out. One of these days Pinterest may gobble them up !
Here's the Deal
Facebook and Pinterest dudes should start talking to us about these important things.
Suppose a bunch of people wanted to do high tech stuff like I just did.
They want online mini resumes the same as in the screenshot above.
Call them a Picturesume.
My friend Map It Okinawa coined that term.
The high tech stuff, I did all by myself.
Contact us. Sometimes, we even accept unreasonable offers !

A Million Views: It Happened Sometime Last Night !
One Million Views !!!
This happened a lot faster than I could have ever imagined.
The Blogger thing just took-off and hit 1,000,000 overnight. Before I woke up.
The view-meter was at 1,000,061 when I got here this morning.
Here is the Screenshot
The contest is over. It will probably be this weekend before we determine the winner.
One million views, on a blog from Okinawa, Japan is a pretty big deal.
Call me a redneck, if you'd like. There's a little secret, I should probably tell you.
Five years ago, I didn't know how to turn a computer on so, I called a friend named, Joe.
And, he came over. He showed me where the power button was and hooked me up.
Then, we got the internet thing and wired me to the World Wide Web.
Through many trials and lots of errors, this blog got where it is today.
And, I made some great friends, around the world, along the way.
This internet thing, I used to be scared of may really take-off, someday.
Dontcha think ?
What Happens Next
The Blog and Facebook Pages, where contest entries were made, will be printed.
With the Ryukyu Dudes assistance we will pick the winner.
As promised, this will be a random selection, done redneck style.
No fancy machinery, other than a pair of scissors and somebody's baseball hat.
Snip all the names from the contest entries and throw them in a hat.
Then, somebody just reaches down and pulls out the winner.
We'll find a pretty girl. Thataway, nobody can say the contest was rigged. She does the picking.
Maybe, I'll even wear a tuxedo, or a T-shirt that looks like one.
Dang. I hate getting all dressed up.
This thing is gonna hafta wait 'til the weekend. But, we'll getterdun.
Meanwhile, I'd like to thank everybody for visiting here.
Now, this whole internet thing gets me wondering, sometimes.
Do you suppose that meter would break if it hit, let's say 1,000,000,000,000 views ?

Photography Tip: With Wildlife Always Aim for the Eye
This is a screenshot of a RAW photo taken Jun 6, 2012.
Normally, I wouldn't enlarge a photo file 200% but, this is to show you my focus point.
The cross-hairs are something I see in my editing program, not, in the camera viewfinder.
In wildlife photography, the eye is the most important part of the subject to capture.
Aim for, spot-meter and focus on the eye and you may have an award winning photo.
