Bird Image: Striated Heron at Okukubi Dam in Kin Town

This Little Heron seems to be a regular visitor to the spillway at Kin Dam.

Traveling around the entire dam, this shot was taken on the way home.

Several photos of Buzzard Eagles and Osprey were taken, as well.

This just happens to be a favorite, because the bird stood still for the shot.

Little Heron, Mangrove Heron, Lava Heron and Green-backed Heron are common names.

Its scientific name: Butorides striata

Bird Photo: Friday Night and Here's a Dam Heron for You

It was near the Kin Dam so, I'm calling it a dam heron.

Striated Heron is the common name of this bird.

There were so many shots of this bird taken, the SD card got filled up.

And, I didn't bring along a spare so, I cussed and went home.

But, if one of these photos wins a contest....

I'll start calling the bird a dam fine heron.

Friday night, a beer is calling me.

It Made Some Awkward Poses

 

 

The Little Heron was comical at times but, it was an interesting bird to watch.

Hopefully, when they finish building the Kin Dam, we'll see more of them.

These birds, are nowhere near, as large as a Grey Heron.

But, they have some colorful markings.

The heron was scouting out the Okukubi River, close to the new dam.

They like to eat fish and even call out to them.

 Sometimes, they aren't so lucky at catching anything but, that happens to people, too.

 Once, the little rascal got more than it could handle so, it let one get away.

Did that ever happen to you, when you went fishing ?

Me neither.  I eat, mostly hamburgers.  Hah !

This bird had me stumped for awhile but, we gotterdun.

It's a Striated Heron, sometimes called Little Heron (Butorides striata).

They eat fish, bugs, frogs, snakes and when they're really hungry, other birds.
