Smiling Moon Over Okinawa After the Typhoon

Shortly After 4 AM

All is well on the island of Okinawa and the typhoon that brushed us is long gone.

Over the past week, a few storms hit us and, some folks got upset.

Downed power lines, cars, and buildings taking a beating and fallen trees were everywhere.

Loss of electrical power meant food spoiling, no internet and no way to charge cell phones.

We even had to go without water for a few days; catching what rainwater we could.

Over on Facebook, I saw lots of folks whining and complaining, like it was the end of the world.

Crybabies need to take a look at Indonesia and see what the earthquake and tsunami did.

Then, thank your lucky stars, we are safe, sound, and have a smiling moon up in the sky.

NOTE: It's a few days before the New Moon.

This photo was taken while the moon was at 14% and the image was rotated slightly.

There was no sense showing one of those Dick Cheney crooked smiles.

Don't we have enough things to complain about already?

Finally Somebody Came Along with a Lifetime Warranty Umbrella

Windjammer® Is the Name of This Model

There must be half a dozen broken, twisted umbrellas, I've been saving.

We get some pretty wicked rain and winds in Okinawa and, I don't like getting wet.

When a typhoon comes along and wrecks my umbrella, it ruins my attitude.

But, I keep the busted things in a collection, for future use, as models.

Don't you think, that would be an interesting subject ?

Next I Want to Become a Test Pilot

I got this idea, when the rain stopped, just about the time, I wanted some.

They claim, this gadget has been tested in some sort of win tunnel.

People in Portland, Oregon are the designers for this rain gear.

And, they are like experts on rain because, it rains a lot over there, I'm told.

So, I plan on writing to, whoever the Windjam Dude might be and, make him an offer.

Typhoon season will be on our island shortly so, we have to hurry a bit.

Here's the deal, Mr. Windjam - A free test pilot is volunteering.

A few of my friends are crazy enough to video, me walking in the rain during a storm.

If, these umbrellas can handle it, we could sell plenty of them for you.

62" Is a Huge Umbrella

This model is large enough to shelter three, normal-sized people and probably, more.

Suppose a bunch of young ladies, decided to accompany me, for whatever reason.

That way, you wouldn't have to worry about, me getting carried away by a typhoon.

We would all squeeze and hang on tightly together, for safety.

Waiting Patiently

Until the rain starts pouring down and high winds come along, I'll be patiently waiting.

Flower Photo: A Single Rain Lily

The rain lilies are sprouting all over the island with the passing of  Typhoon Chan-hom.

This morning, in a hurry to hit the bank, I left the cameras behind.

That's when this huge pink rain lily was spotted.

Kneeling on the sidewalk, with the cell phone camera, I took this quick shot.

This flower is probably, three times the size of those we usually see around here.

If the weather holds up for a few more days, I may go back with the big camera.

Most websites, tell us, rain lilies, sprout, after it rains.

The Missus, tells me, these are a typhoon flowers.

In the past, others have told me, the flowers are used to predict inbound typhoons.

Time will tell.

 Where Did All the Green Go ?

One of the techniques used in travel photography works well in travel writing, too.

Whether it's a photo, or a story, the finished product should make the viewer want to be there.

The last few typhoons that passed through Okinawa, Japan made things rough.

Lots of the greenery in the northern areas turned brown.  I want to show you a green island.

 

Another Storm is Brewing Out There

 

This one is named, Typhoon Prapiroon.  It's as unpredictable as the rest.

Looking at the forecast, it may not whack us like the last three did.

They're predicting it will pass way off the east coast of Okinawa.

That should just give us some strong breezes and enough rain to wash all the salt off of our trees.

And, make me happy as a pig when everything turns green, again !
