Bird Photos: Sandpiper and Stilts Reflect in Rain

8 Image Animated GIF

This series of photos was taken shortly after noon on March 14, 2015.

A little rain sends some people, with cameras, running but, I liked the light and reflections.

Pentax cameras and lenses are made for this sort of weather.

Using the Pentax K3 and a prime 300mm lens, I stayed with the birds and got wet.

The bird in the foreground is some sort of sandpiper.

Whether it's a Pectoral Sandpiper or Sharp-tailed Sandpiper, remains: To Be Determined.

Misidentifying a bird can really get the bird experts riled-up so, I won't be guessing here.

It's a lot more fun standing in the rain than, arguing with the bird people.

The birds in the background are Black-winged Stilts (Himantopus himantopus)

Those are the birds my wife calls Aliens.

The Bird Mrs. RyukyuMike Calls Alien (Photo)

Things got pretty hectic around here this week.

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, I was out shooting festivals.

Yesterday, we were all over the island, getting wildlife photos, Mostly birds is what I shot.

Last night, there was a get together with some sabani people.

We had a blast, drinking and singing in one of my favorite establishments.

When the better half woke up she asked me what time I got home.

Heck if I know.  When you come home exhausted, who looks at clocks ?

Not me.  I just crash.

Then she asks if I remembered to take my medicines. Yup, I always do.

The third question:  Where did you go with the cameras, yesterday ?

Rather than try and explain where I went and each bird I shot, I came up with an easy answer.

We went to the Kin Town marshlands and shot aliens.

She understands that. Because she calls these birds Aliens.

Blackwinged Stilts or, Himantopus himantopus are tongue twisters.

What's Wrong With That Picture ? (Photo) The Aliens are Back !

The thought had crossed my mind.  Making What's Wrong With That Picture a regular weekly feature here.  But, I'm not sure I'd be able to come up with enough material.  There's a lot of bizarre, whacky and unusual stuff going on in the world.  Where on the tiny island of Okinawa would I ever find the photos needed to introduce these off the wall and sometimes, unbelieveable tidbits of news that come across the wires ?

Well, this baby just fell into my lap today.  Aliens.  I have a photo in my pocket.  It's on my cell phone.

This photo was snapped in March of 2007.  Here is proof that aliens exist on the island of Okinawa, Japan.

I have a picture and two witnesses.  They held the rascal still so I could snap the photo and pretty soon they'll be old enough to testify or whatever scientsts have you do.

They are my Grandkids.  We were walking the dogs when I spotted the alien.  I asked them to grab it so I could get a quick photo of them standing alongside it. That would give it a sense of scale.

The one on the right, she's my Granddaughter.  I can't get her to go dumpster diving anymore.

She's a teenager now.  You know girls.  Once they hit a certain age, dumpster diving is only for guys.

If we spot another alien, us men will have to grab it.  Girls might take the photo, if we're lucky.

Enough about my picture.  I don't need anyone telling me what's wrong with this picture.

I'll give you a link to these guys who call themselves the Furious Fanboys.

They got the goods on the FBI, aliens and the whole Roswell, New Mexico UFO Incident.

You have to see the evidence they presented and make your own decision.

Good old conspiracy theories just give me goose bumps.  I'm having flashbacks thinking about those FBI cartoonish characters Scully and Mulder from the X-Files TV Series.

They used to say stuff like "Trust no one" and "The truth is out there".  Wooooo.  This is good !

If you have any kind of extraterrestrial music lying around the house, put it on and crank it up real loud. Then go have a peek at Oops! FBI Confirms Roswell UFO Incident.

If you're lucky enough to not get abducted either by aliens or the FBI, I'd like to hear from you again.

Just your opinion.  What's wrong with that picture ?

Wildlife Photo: (Turtle) Red-eared Slider and Teenage Mutant Ninja

The Red-eared Slider (Trachemys scripta elegans) is a fresh water turtle, originally from the south of the USA but, they may found around the globe today. This one, I shot in a pond in Okinawa, Japan.

Once somebody started calling them the TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES they became a hot commodity. Parents around the world just had to buy them for their children because they didn't want to take the time to explain the facts of life. Turtles don't know Karate. They don't even know which aliens they're supposed to be fighting. They just let people take them out of the ponds in South Carolina, or somewhere like that, and throw them on airplanes to foreign countries.

Well, here are a few facts I discovered about these critters today:
1. They can live to be about 40 years old.
2. They may carry Salmonella.
3. They breed under water for about 45 minutes but, really only go at it for 10 minutes or so.
4. Flushing them down the toilet proved to be a problem in the UK.
5. Australia banned them: $100,000 fine or five years in jail is what one could cost you.

Red-eared Slider Turtles, listen to me: THE PEOPLE SELLING YOU ARE THE ALIENS !
