Cherry Blossoms Opening on Mt. Yadake in Okinawa

Sakura (桜) Report #1

The Cherry Blossom Season started early, again this year.

The pink and red flowers were spotted by Doc Graff this morning.

So, you know where I went today.  Up that mountain.

It's cold and windy up there.

The little flower buds, are just starting to open.

flower, cherry blossom,sakura

Not being a real mathematician or anything like that, I'll take an uneducated guess.

sakura, cherry blossom,flower, Japan

Maybe, less than one percent of the Sakura (桜) are blooming.

Most of the cherry trees, still look like this one.

So, if you want to join the crowds of sakura chasers, start making travel plans.

By the middle of next month, Cherry Blossom Season should be going full throttle !

Sakura ( 桜 ) Season Is Coming to Okinawa Any Day Now !

It was too cold for flip flops outside today in Okinawa, Japan.

That's a sure sign the the Cherry Blossoms ( Sakura, or  in Japanese ) are going to start sprouting.

The Sakura up in mainland Japan wait for the Spring thaw to bloom.

Okinawa has a different breed of cherry tree.

It takes a good crisp, cold snap of air to get the cherry blossoms blooming here.

Well, it's colder than a witch's ahem ahum, um, heart (?) here, right now.

That's how you know the Sakura ( 桜 ) Season will start, any day now.

There's a brand new pair of yellow flip flops and a bunch of those yellow Mejiro birds waiting for the cherry blossoms to bloom.

C'mon Mother Nature.....

BRING UM ON !

Cherry Blossom (桜) Season in Okinawa (Photo Essay) Plan Ahead

Cherryblossom Season in Okinawa, Japan begins in January.

Cherry Blossom (桜 Sakura) Festivals take place all over the island through February.

In order to present photos of some different locations, other than the usual tourist traps for cherry blossom viewing, RyukyuRu and I are planning ahead, starting, right now.

Off the beaten path is where we plan on going

Anyone can shoot photos of flowers in the city.

Up in the mountains, someplaces, it's pretty but, it can get pretty crowded, too.

Instead of locations where they have stairs to climb....

We'll look for places where you can meet some wildlife.

There won't be any need to worry about people or tour busses bumping into you.

The plan is to search for these locations now.

When the Cherry Blossoms start blooming we'll be able to shoot until the moon comes out.

Wouldn't it be nice to shoot cherry blossoms until after dark without running into all the tourists coming to Okinawa, Japan during Sakura (桜) Season?

That's the plan
