Bird Image: Striated Heron at Okukubi Dam in Kin Town

This Little Heron seems to be a regular visitor to the spillway at Kin Dam.

Traveling around the entire dam, this shot was taken on the way home.

Several photos of Buzzard Eagles and Osprey were taken, as well.

This just happens to be a favorite, because the bird stood still for the shot.

Little Heron, Mangrove Heron, Lava Heron and Green-backed Heron are common names.

Its scientific name: Butorides striata

The Little Heron (Butorides striata) posed perfectly.

A Bird with Many Names

Little Heron, Striated Heron, Green-backed Heron, call it what you like.

The scientific name would be Butorides striata.

This one entertained me today along the banks of the Okukubi River.

 If it would have caught some fish, I might have made it the Bird of the Week.

This bird had me stumped for awhile but, we gotterdun.

It's a Striated Heron, sometimes called Little Heron (Butorides striata).

They eat fish, bugs, frogs, snakes and when they're really hungry, other birds.
