It's been awhile since we've visited this area and, it was high noon when I took this photo.

Normally, I wouldn't bother shooting a landscape at this time of day.

And, there are plenty images of Katsuyama in my files already.

Just for the heck of it, this shot was taken and, I Geo-tagged it.

The Katsu Village office was directly behind me, on the opposite side of the road.

Working on a Then and Now Photo Shoot

 

 

One of these days, an article, explaining how we do these things should be put together.

Composing an image to duplicate a photo created 50 years ago can be challenging.

The mission here, was to photograph a rock, out in the ocean.

Over the years landslides and the re-routing of the highway,  complicated things a bit.

The cameraman, would have to do some rock climbing, to get in position.

When, I was younger, that climb would have been no problem.

But, I try not to do things like that, anymore.

Luckily, Ryukyu Rusty was back on the island for a visit, in August.

He and the Map It Okinawa dude, climbed up there and, got the job done.

When, they came back down with the photos, required, Map It Dude, asked me a question.

He said, "What would you do if Rusty shot all the photos at ISO 800?"

My Answer:  I would have been mad enough, to climb up there and do it myself !

Sometimes We Get Off The Beaten Path (Photos)

Another excursion in the northern hills of Okinawa had me wondering.

What do we do this kind of stuff for ?

A person could slip and fall, especially when it starts raining.

The huffing, puffing and sore muscles make me ask myself, "What all this climbing good for?"

Then, I come across something like these flowers, growing in the wild.

They would never have been seen by me, if I hadn't gotten off the beaten path !

This series of photos was taken, today as we hiked up the tallest mountain on Okinawa.

It should give the viewer a sense of what to expect to see along the route.

There isn't any special mountain climbing gear required to scale this big hill.

Sturdy walking shoes and the will to reach the top are all that's needed.

This landslide probably happened during one of last year's typhoons.

 Fallen trees, you have a choice.  Go over, under or, around them.

It's a designated Wildlife Protection Area so, I wouldn't mess with anything.  Not even a fallen tree.

There is a surprising amount of bamboo growing on the mountain.

Going under fallen trees got tiring so, I opted to go over some of them.

The trail is definitely, NOT Flip-flop, Baby Buggy or, Skateboard Friendly !

 If you wear a backpack or, carry little critters on your back, Be Careful.

Every once in awhile, I got hung-up or, unintentionally, banged my head on something.

Plan on spending an hour and a half or, two hours getting to the top.

And, the same amount of time on the return trip, so you don't slip and fall.

This 498 meter sign, is at the end of the trail and I figured we gotterdun.

But, Doc Graff and Map It Okinawa talked to some local gals and found out something.

Somewhere, around that place there's a higher point that comes to 503 meters.

That means, as soon as my legs and back quit hurtin' we have to climb back up Mt. Yonaha.

And, getterdun properly.  Dagnabbit !
