When Angry Birds Attack: How People React (Photos)

I just got done developing the photos from my trip to Komaka-Jima Okinawa.

It's fun watching how people react to birds diving and screaming at them.

Some folks act like the birds aren't even there.

Others, run for cover and hide in their tents.

Walking farther down the beach is a solution that might work.

This couple seemed to be enjoying the show.  They smiled.

And, the guy kept giving the angry bird a thumbs up !

Guest Photo: While Waiting for the Boat Don't Waste Time

There I be decked out in my Sunday best waiting for a boat ride to Komaka-Jima.

This little excursion had me waking up at 3AM to go shoot a sunrise over Kudaka Island.

We wound up at the port a tad early.  So, I caught a little catnap.

Dang.  If I had known I was going to be a photographic subject, I'd have fixed my hair.

Photo Essay: The Tern That Rules Komaka-Jima

Out on what is supposed to be an uninhabited island today I met this tern.

Around Komaka-Jima he lets tourists know, there are some places they aren't welcome.

How can a small place like this stay uninhabited if people keep coming here ?

He squawks and dive-bombs everyone on the beach.

Some folks just ignore it and walk away.  He won't really bite you; just try to scare you away.

The bird saw me pointing a camera his way and came after me, too.

It was fun tracking him as he swooped, dipped and screamed at me.

Exploring the island is what I went there for but, forgot all about it.

This tern was a real character and I have 200 pictures to prove it.

That bird came from Australia, according to the staff who run the boat launch.

They call it an Ajisagi.  I'm fairly certain it would be called a Black-naped Tern.

They do a fine job of trying to keep their homes, uninhabited !

Photo of the Week: Igei Beach Dragonboat Races

This photo is a scene from this morning's Dragonboat Races on Igei Beach.

There was plenty of sunshine. I got out there early and was fried before 9AM.

At 8:42 my cell phone went off.  I was hoping it was someone bringing me a drink.

Turns out it was an email from my niece back in New York.

Here I was, dehydrating under the hot Okinawa sun with all my beer fumes coming out of me she says:

"So, I'm sitting in a Japanese restaurant and drinking Asahi Beer.  It's not too bad !!!!"

Now, I love my niece but, I wonder if she's a little bit crazy.

You won't catch me drinking anything but Orion Beer !

Friday Food Photo: The Hamburger With A Wide Angle Lens

Playing around with a Sigma 10-20mm lens, this turned out to be my favorite shot today.

It seems these Toto La Bebe Hamburgers are becoming habit-forming for me.

We drove all the way back to Motobu for lunch, again today.

The owner wasn't there.  I want to ask him to build a franchise in my hometown.

That way, I could walk to lunch everyday.

Even help out around the place, for free.

Like, I could volunteer to be the busboy and dish washer.

Eat everybody's leftovers and lick the plates clean before washing them.

That'd be fun.

The Toto La Bebe got a five star review from me on TripAdvisor.

It's the best in the world.

If you don't believe me, hop on a plane.  Come on over here and see for yourself !

TripAdvisor can hook you up with flights and hotels.

We could do lunch together.  I promise, not to lick my plate (while people are looking).

Then, after that, we could go bar-hopping, or something !
