Wildlife Photography can be Challenging

 

Birds do the darndest things, sometimes, but, you have to shoot them anyway.

Then you get back, away from nature, and download the cameras to see what you've got.

Probably, 95% of the photos, you should throw away.

 Don't Expect to See too many Contest Winners

 

This feathered friend was an expert at ruining photo compositions.

Grey Herons show some beautiful colors when you catch them in flight with the right light.

That would be, with the sun shining behind you, over your shoulders.

Well, this rascal knew that and, didn't want to be photographed.

So, flying into the sun was what it kept doing.

Silhouette Photography is Always an Option

 

Firing  in continuous shooting mode, the bird was captured flying under the bridge.

The photo, to me, still isn't contest-worthy.

But, I'll share it here, just because it reminded me of a catchy tune, for a title.

Wildlife Photo: The Pacific Reef Egret (Egretta sacra) Okinawa

The Pacific Reef Egret (Egretta sacra) found in Okinawa, Japan may be black or white.

Today I found a link saying, the ones in New Zealand are  predominately grey.

They have a shortage of eye Doctors down there is what I'm thinking.

What color would you say the bird in my photo is ?

Wildlife Photo: Spot-billed Duck an Editor's Pick for April 2012

This may be the only Editor's Pick I'll have to show for the month of April 2012.

Time is flying by quickly this month.  

Between travel and moving the office there won't be anymore contest entries from this location.

The laptop and the Canon G12 will be on the road with me.

Time permitting, internet available and me able to keep my eyes open, I'll post frequently.

Once things get settled down again, I'll have tons of new photos to show you

if them varmints at the airport leave me alone !

This Osprey was photographed on the Okinawa Island of Senaga-Jima Feb 10, 2012.

The photo was taken using a Pentax K5, a tripod with legs folded (as monopod), shutter release cable and a Pentax 18-250 lens at 250mm.

f/11   1/400   ISO 100  Spotmetered and panning on the bird's eye in flight.

Wildlife Photo: Praying Mantis and What They Eat

This photo was taken today in Yomitan Okinawa, Japan.

I always knew praying mantis were good for the garden because they eat bugs.

Like they catch and munch on flies, moths, grasshoppers, crickets and maybe, mosquitos.

But, what I didn't know was this:

Females might even eat the males during, or after reproduction.  Ouch !
