Halloween Sneaks Up on People--But Not This Year

Here's What Happened Last Year

 

 Almost totally clueless to the fact that Halloween 2011 was just around the corner,

this set of bones was posted to make a point and, enhance a spooky story.

No Need to Fret Over Those Bones

 

They ain't from human hands.  That photo is whale bones from the Nago City Museum.

Whale hunting hasn't happened in Okinawa, Japan for decades.

Funny, how whale bones look like human hands, though.  Ain't it?

Along Came this Gal with a Magazine from Australia

 

She saw my Today I went Down Some Spooky, Old Stairs: Photo Essay 

And, asked if I'd let her use it for a Halloween story on her publication.

So, I tweaked it a little, to make it halloweenish and off it went.

For a holiday that sneaked up me, the story didn't do too shabby.

On this blog, it has way over 16,000 pageviews !

I still think, people who believe in ghosts, are some kind of nuts.

 Spirits are the things you have to watch out for.

Halloween is Just around the Corner

 

There's a small typhoon, in the area, dousing us with rain, today but, no strong winds.

Maybe I'll call the Map It Okinawa Dude and see if he has any Halloween spirit.

We could go to one of the big chain stores and shoot some decorations for you.

Up north, I think it was, I saw a Halloween witch. I can't remember.

Map It Dude will remember.

Anything's better than sitting at home on a rainy day. 

Maybe, 'cuz there's a little witch, in my house !   Shhh.....

Photo: A September 2012 Favorite from a Shinigu

The photos from this event called a Shinigu are almost, all developed.

Just a few dozen more to look at and I'll be ready to go back to visit the ladies of Gushiken.

I'll print a couple and give them to the folks in the village office.

Then, find out if they have internet capability to enable everyone to view the rest online.

This photo is one I'll print.  It's my favorite.

 I had to jump off a dang water tower to catch the gals with the ocean in the background !

Million Views Contest: How We Gotterdun

As promised we drew the winner's name in true redneck style.

These photos by RyukyuRusty, will show you how we gotterdun.

The Million Views Giveaway blog and Facebook pages were printed.

Each contestant, who made a legitimate entry, had their name snipped out of the page.

Lucky for us, nobody was using the pool table.  This was a serious operation.

 To be fair and square about it, the criminals trying to enter twice, had to be eliminated.

But, they only got eliminated, once.  So, they still had a chance to win.

 The pretty girl, who wants to be a model, did some practice poses.

That was while I was doing the paperwork.

We had to arm wrestle a few times because that's what rednecks do when they aren't playing pool.

She won every match, easily.  That was so I could buy the beers.

Next, we folded-up all the contest entries so they all looked the same size.

They were placed in this guy's hat.  I stepped out of the scene, to keep things honest.

That's my hand, over there, and I'm telling the model, "Reach in and pick one winner".

We had to hurry and get this contest over before everyone was falling-down drunk.

There she went.  She pulled a winner's name out of the hat.

She held the thing up in the air just like she was a professional model all her life !

There's  more to how we gotterdun.  Even a photo of me wearing my tux.  But, I gotta run.

Photo of the Week: What a Character !

 

 This is one of the photos I shot last Sunday at a school in Kin Village.

At an Undokai  (Sports Day, in Japan) Eisa dancing was performed.

Depending on who you ask, the one clowning around while everyone else is dancing,

would be called either a Gajan Gani, or a Chondara.

The kid was a real lively character.  One of the best I've ever seen.

So, I'm going to do a little searching and see if I can locate him, or her.

How to Smooth Talk in a Papaya Field

 

You Can't Just Walk in and Shoot Papayas

 

Back in August when we ran across these little papaya trees I had to shoot them.

Months earlier, I had taken a photo of me standing next to a big papaya tree.

It had been a long time, waiting for the right weather to get a photo of these little papaya trees.

It was time to do some smooth talking so I could get this done for my blog. 

I wanted to show a comparison in the sizes of these trees.

RyukyuRusty had to stop the car and let me out.

Before setting up a tripod, I asked the farmer's permission, to take a photo.

That way, we wouldn't look like some sort of criminals, just tresspassing.

Rusty got the shot of me by the papaya and I went over to talk the the farmer.

What I didn't know was:  The rascal kept on shooting while I was over there.

There I was flailing around telling the guy what nice trees he had.

And showing him how a typhoon came along and broke my first papaya tree.

Matsuda thought I was some kind of foreign dancer, I bet.

That's because, I wiggle around a lot when I get excited.

He had a good laugh.  And, Rusty was probably laughing, too, while he was shooting.

 Before I left, I had to ask Matsuda, again, what his name was.

That's because I hear about as good as a rock, these days.

So, he yelled "Matsuda".

 Then, I thanked him for the fruit he gave me and told him not to worry about my ears.

It comes in handy when you get old.

If you can't hear, you don't have to sit around the house listening to the wife yapping away.

We had a blast.

Everybody should try smooth talking in a papaya field, someday !
