Made Into Boating Bow Wows

 

 

It took some doing, getting this gal from Okinawa, into a Boating Magazine.

They have plenty of girls in bikini photos but, Asura doesn't wear those things.

Pets on the Water was the category I entered her in.

 

In an email to the editor, I explained that, Asura sails with the sabani team, Ayakaji.

The photo was taken at Kanna Beach in Ginoza, Okinawa, Japan.

It's a little tricky because they have 146 Boating Bow Wows.

The first one you will see is #1. Then, you have to push NEXT, above the photo.

When you get to #3, you can see this sabani sailing dog.

Then, hit Like and Tweet and maybe, we can get Asura into the #1 position.

That's where she belongs, I think.

What the Heck is an Amcham ?

 

 

It ain't French, Spanish, Chinese or Korean.  I checked.

We were out celebrating last night and I only had one copy of the magazine to show everybody.

The wife and all my sweethearts, at every bar, wanted to know.

What's an Amcham ?

So, I just told them, it must be some kind of code-word.

Amcham, probably means, something like American Chamber of Commerce.

Americans like to do stuff like that.

For example, I use code words, whenever I go out drinking.

All the girls, working behind the bars know.  If I say "I love you," it doesn't mean I love them.

It means, I need another beer.

The missus knows, I do that, everywhere I go so, she doesn't get jealous.

She just says, "Do you still have money?"

After I have told about 5 or 6 girls, I love them, it's time to start singing some karaoke.

And, I do stuff like this:

All girls like to hear that song, even more, than me telling them I love them.


When I woke up this afternoon, the throat and head were both aching.


And, I don't know where that Amchan Magazine went.


But, I have more at the office. So, I did some research.


Amcham is part of the American Chamber of Commerce from the USA.


The President, at the time of their 60th anniversary, was Walt Christiansen.


He's an alright, old guy, you can poke LIKE over where he works.



And, if you like poking things over on Facebook, here's what you could do.

Go poke the people at the American Chamber of Commerce in Okinawa.

That's where I'm heading next.

Friday Photo: Sunrise in the North of Okinawa

Here is a photo taken in 2008 from the northernmost point on the island of Okinawa.

It was for a magazine assignment I was on with Doc Graff.

Rather than have to wake up early in the morning and drive to catch the sunrise

I packed up the car and hit the road at midnight.

Sleeping on a concrete park bench was more comfortable than trying to curl up in a bucket seat.

So, that's what I did.

It's been a few years since I shot that sunrise.

Maybe, it's time I headed back up to Hedo Misaki do it again.

Ryukyu Rusty at National Geographic Traveler: Photo Contest !

Keep yer eyes on this guy, he's going places, I tell you.  Here's a photo Ryukyu Rusty has in National Geographic Traveler's 2011 Photo Contest. It's a fisherman casting his line off the cliffs during sunset at the Zanpamisaki Lighthouse in Okinawa, Japan.

HERE'S WHAT WE SHOULD ALL DO:

They have a whole bunch of buttons on the page for Facebook, Twitter, Google Buzz, Digg, StumbleUpon, Send to a Friend and even one button that says MORE.  I'm gonna try them all out and I hope some of my followers have the time, in their busy schedules, to hit all those buttons, too.

Ryukyu Rusty isn't really interested in winning some prize in a contest.  Somebody else, ahem- ahum, just put the photo in there for him.  But, wouldn't that be cool, if this photo showed up in National Geographic Traveler Magazine, someday?  Last time I looked there were only twelve-thousand-some other people entered in the contest.  Let's see what we can do to narrow down the odds a bit !

Lions, Ghosts and Photoshop

Here's a photo of the Stone Lion in Tomori Okinawa, Japan. Around this time last year my shooting sidekick, Doc, and I were working together on an article for Apogee Photo Magazine.

In order to put the story together, the way we wanted, a few things had to be done differently than any story we had ever done in the past. I don't like going to jail and Doc is a man of character.  So, I figured I'd better do everything sort of legally, this time around.

There was a snag we hit trying to get the US Library of Congress to let us publish a photo of theirs along with the article.

I heard somewhere, if you work for a living and irritate the US Congress you can get into big trouble.

They can make you pay more taxes and pay for other people's insurance policies, as well. Hah !

So, one of the tricks we used to keep things legal was had some SKETCHES made to simulate the original photo of the Tomori Stone Lion with Army guys hanging around while bullets were chipping away at it during the war.

Doc did all the keyboard banging and we sent the photos and sample sketches in to Apogee Photo.

Then, the editor at Apogee came up with an even better idea. Throw some GHOSTS in the photo with Photoshop and make it look exactly like it did 65 years ago. Yeah, baby. Let's do it.  Hah !

Now, I ain't sayin I believe in ghosts or anything like that but this image makes the hair stand up on the back of my neck.

I bet if I took you to see the Stone Lion in Tomori and handed you a copy of this photo, you'd be real careful walking over there to pet the lion because you might trip over a GHOST !

Now, I'm not a big fan of Photoshop. I always tell people to learn how to shoot a camera right and you'll never need to Photoshop your pictures. If you want to be a digital artist that's cool.  Just buy Photoshop and all the trimmings and you won't have to waste all your money on camera stuff.

This was one of those rare exceptions because I can't think of any other way to get ghosts to sit next to a lion and pose for a photo without using Photoshop. Can you?
