Flashback from a Friday in 2010

This morning several Facebook friends reminded me of this February 2010 blog post.

Apparently, a 4.0 or, bit stronger earthquake happened last night and I missed it.

People DON'T PANIC!  Little earthquakes happen all the time. Adapt!

OK back to 2010

We had this earthquake around 5:30 this morning, right here in my hometown.

 Well, it actually shook everybody's hometown on the whole 65-mile island.

CNN and Fox and maybe even that Hiraldo Guy like to be the first, along with NBC, ABC, that

 Fat Guy who wants to run the Republican Party, and Bill O'Reilly, Conan, David Letterman,

 Dr. Phil, Capt. Kangaroo, Al Gore, The Flying Nun and everybody else who wants to be the

 first to report the news all gets family and friends of mine upset because just like breaking

 wind, 

BREAKING HEADLINE NEWS is usually BULL!

Gee, I hope I didn't leave anybody important out. If I did, sorry, it was intentional.

Here's what really happened in the Not-So-Breaking-News, from a survivor of the tragic

 aftermath. The ground shook. The house did, too. Not even 30 seconds, I think.

Everybody survived. If anyone was injured, it must have been an accident. There was one dead

 bird in my kitchen. He was still warm when I took him away from the dog eating him. I guess I

 should start closing the doors during earthquakes. Keep the damn birds from using my house

 like an earthquake shelter and stealing my Rye Bread. Bet that's why the dog killed him.

That's all the breaking news from my part of the world. Everyone's fine and I even answered

 half of the 157 emails I got today asking about the earthquake before I got this great idea: Do a

 Blog. Thanks for caring, everyone!

An Earthquake Shook the Island

 

 

There's a monument stone in Urasoe, we've been meaning to locate and, today was a good day.

As legend goes, this spot is protected from damaging quakes and, we had one yesterday.

No harm was done, to anyone, I know of; the thing was miles to our north.

Some Wicked Spirits

 

 

Years ago, folks traveling along the road from Urasoe to Shuri would get spooked.

A Buddhist monk carved some scripture on stones and, buried them here.

The ghoul or, whatever it was, soon disappeared  and the place became safe.

Even when big earthquakes occurred, the ground didn't shake at this position.

We had a 6.0 quake 110 km above Nago, Okinawa yesterday.

This morning, there was an elderly woman at the Kyozuka Monument.

She, confirmed for me, this is the place to pray for safety from earthquakes.

Looking closer, I observed sake cups, incense and fruit offerings at the site.

After asking if, it would be alright to take photos, the woman disappeared, along with her cat.

Off to the right of the monument, is a coin box on a pole, for donations.

Many Buddhist places, have these boxes for coin deposits; I pretended I was low on cash.

Back in the professor's car, we had a tour brochure, I wanted to look at, for something.

Based upon the scriptures, the monk buried here, you're supposed to chant something.

Remember: "Chouchikachika" or, "chouchika, chouchika" is what to say.

It can protect you from evil spirits and strong earthquakes, too !

Earthquakes, Oil Spills, Tsunamis, Nuclear Disasters and Coal

Alright, I'm not exactly a rocket scientist or even a rock scientist but, I know a few people who qualify.

First, I want to share some information a friend sent me today. It may help answer questions about Japan's Nuclear Disaster for those living in Japan or worried about which way the wind is blowing around the world.  We'll call this the US GOVERNMENT MADE EASY Site just for the heck of it.

They are advising some folks to leave the area around the Fukushima Power Plant and Japan as well as advising people not to travel to Japan. I'm staying put because Okinawa, Japan is where I happen to live.

Some people have been given Potassium Iodide (KI) and I know there's been a buying spree going on by folks along the west coast of the USA.  DON'T PANIC !  Those people just do whatever is fashionable.

The poor souls given potassium pills by the government and their employers have been told, GET THIS:
 DO NOT TO EAT THE STUFF until it is required and even then you better be careful; you could get sick!

See, there are health risks if you start taking drugs your body doesn't need. All the information you need is in the link above. It is in English, Spanish and you can get Google to translate it into any other language.

Next, I'll bet earthquakes and tsunamis are more than likely going to happen, along with hurricanes, typhoons, forest fires, cow paddies, elephant farts, frogs croaking, babies barfing and whatever other natural disasters Mother Nature decides to cook up for us, as long as we occupy this planet. 

We will never be able to control nature.

We do have control over mining and burning coal and uranium, drilling for oil and polluting air and water.

It's up there in the sky.

We should listen to the Rocket Scientists and start "Drilling Up, Not Down" is what I'm starting to think.
