Whether You Like It or Not

tiled-roof,Okinawan home;traditional,sky,clouds

Weather Will Change

Groan.  Not enough sun rays have been coming my way, the past few days.

Maybe, I'm one of those solar-powered creatures. I don't know.

A gallon of milk or a handful of Vitamin D pills, won't do the trick. I need sunshine.

Usually, I get some people to smile, on my walk to work. That didn't happen today.

Even homeless folks, know better than, to walk around smiling, in this kind of weather.

Well, I walk around smiling, anyway but,  there's nobody out there, to smile back.

Feeling kind of miserable, I decided to pull this old photo out of the files.

Maybe, it'll brighten up someone else's day, too. Blue skies help.

And, looking forward to the end of the month, I'm sure the sunshine will be back again.

 Little Confession

Normally, I don't go around stealing things. Maybe, this wasn't really theft.

We won't discuss the location just in case, the statute of limitations, is still in effect.

There was a pile of books, several piles of books, stacked in boxes.

They were in a hallway and, nobody was around, looking. So, I got to looking.

Two of the books, on top of a pile, were identical.  Imagine that.

Now, this wasn't outside some bookstore. And, they looked like old books, mind you.

It wasn't as if, they were all brand new and wrapped up in cellophane.

The two book covers, were identical, sort of maroon colored and, had the same title.

So, I got thinking, "Nobody reads two books at the same time." And, got me one.

From watching enough movies, I knew how to get away with the crime.

Don't let anyone catch you and, you stick the thing inside your pocket, quickly.

World's Most Depressing Book

The title of this masterpiece, won't be revealed, for legal purposes. Statute of Limitations.

I can tell you it was written by some doctor and, the subject was, "Depression."

The guy started off, saying stuff about how, he didn't believe in depression.

Then he got into chapters two and three. He got depressed and, says, it can happen to anyone.

The more you read, the more depressed you get, until it becomes "Crippling Depression."

The sick bastard doctor was, crippling me with depression, reading his damn book.

Maybe, that was his plan. Get lots of people, to by antidepressant drugs from him.

Anyhow, I never made it through the third chapter. And, never swiped a book again.

See, I cured myself without, taking any medication. No more kleptomania.

Grey Skies Make Me Blue

If,  I wake up to another dreary sky day tomorrow, I'll find a way to make it better.

There has to be something I can do, to get depressed folks smiling.

If, saying, "Good morning" and smiling, doesn't work, I'll think of something else.

Maybe, walk in my underwear, with my trousers tied around my neck. That may work.

What would be even better, is to see the sun come out !

Tools of the Travel Writing Trade: Brochures and Books

books, brochures,travel

A Peek at Some of the Printed Material Used Daily

The books are used to conduct research but, they don't go along with me in my travels.

They cost money and add weight to a backpack so, they stay home.

Ten Reasons to Love Travel Brouchures

1.  They are free. Doesn't everybody like free stuff ?  Me, too.

2.  You can fit them in your pack or, fold them and stick them in your pocket.

3.  Looking at them can help you plan your day's events.

4.  They contain maps which, give you a sense of directions.

5.  Photos in brochures give me ideas, of where I want to go and what I want to photograph.

6.  They show all the major attractions so, I know where everyone else is going.

7.  They list the mountains, beaches, campsites, trails and lookout points.

8.  Sunrise or sunset from an unusual or advantageous position, are in my travel plans.

Most travelers are doing other touristy things and, not near me during those hours.

9.  Great spots to observe wildlife and nature are always included.

10.  They are handy for writing about a trip after going home.

Websites, addresses and phone numbers, always come in handy when travel writing.

On occasion, brochures have been used as an umbrella or, to start a campfire.

Just remember, you can always get more.  They're free !

Disclosure About this Blog in Japan: It Falls Under US Laws

The United States of America Federal Trade Commission (FTC)
requires me to tell you some legal stuff about this blog.

Like, if you see any product advertised here and decide to buy it, um, I get paid by the advertiser.

Or, if I do a product review on something and get a freebie from the company, I'm supposed to let you know. That way nobody can say I tricked you into buying a piece of junk that I got for free.

Most of the junk I have, I paid for but, I have been known to collect old furniture from friends to furnish a house or, my new office. Sometimes, I buy brand new stuff.

The Photographer's Market, I got five years ago and, I just found out the 2013 edition is on sale.

The Writer's Market 2013 from Amazon is on sale before publication, too.

Any photographer or writer who is in the business of making money should have these books in their library.

They get a five star rating from me but, mine are a little bit too old for a book review.

US laws, which I fall under (sometimes) say I have to disclose this stuff, to you.

If you buy one of those books or, anything else, from any advertiser on this blog

THE ADVERTISER PAYS ME !

(yawn)

This Disclosure Statement will be reviewed by my free legal advisory board as soon as they sober up and may be updated periodically to comply with US Laws and the people who fall under them in Japan.

WEBSITES FOR DUMMIES

LOOK OUT WORLD !   THERE'S THIS BOOK I GOT THE OTHER DAY FOR DUMMIES

I TRIED DOING IT ON MY OWN, WITHOUT ANY BOOK HELPING ME.  EVEN HAD FIVE, MOSTLY USED COMPUTERS, STACKED-UP IN WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A WORKABLE DESIGN BUT, SPARKS STARTED FLYING AND THE ELECTRIC BREAKERS KEPT GETTING REAL HOT AND TURNING THE POWER OFF ON THE WHOLE HOUSE.

ACCORDING TO SOME GUY NAMED DAVID A. CROWDER, I WILL LEARN TO:

1. PLAN AND DESIGN A GREAT-LOOKING WEB SITE

2. WORK WITH HTML, CSS AND NAVIGATION PLANS

3. COLLECT AND CREATE CONTENT THAT GETS ATTENTION

4. TAKE MY SITE ONLINE AND ATTRACT VISITORS WHO COME BACK

AS SOON AS I GET CAUGHT UP DEVELOPING MY PHOTOS HERE'S THE PLAN:

READ AND MEMORIZE #1 AND #3 BECAUSE THEY SOUND IMPORTANT, RIGHT ?

AS FAR AS #2 IS CONCERNED:

HTML, HECK, I'VE HAD HOTMAIL FOR OVER 10 YEARS. NO SENSE READING THAT.

AND ALL MEN ARE NATURAL NAVIGATORS. EVEN WOMEN KNOW THAT.

SO, WHAT'S THE SENSE IN BEATING A DEAD HORSE TO DEATH, ALL OVER AGAIN ?

AND #4  HAH, I ALREADY GOT THAT DONE, PARTLY, ANYWAY, I THINK.

MY WEBSITE'S ALREADY ONLINE, AIN'T IT ?

IF ANYBODY WANT'S THE CHAPTERS FROM "BUILDING A WEB SITE FOR DUMMIES" THAT COVER HTML AND GOING ONLINE (#2 and #4) I CAN RIP THOSE PAGES OUT OF THE BOOK AND MAIL THEM TO YOU.

JUST HIT CONTACT ME ON MY HOMEPAGE. MAKE SURE TO USE  GMAIL OR YAHOO MAIL, THOUGH.

IF YOU USE HOTMAIL THEY'LL THINK YOU'RE A REAL DUMMY !

MORE LATER.....
