Tipping in Japan: An Insider's Tip

TIPPING?

So, you go to a really nice restaurant and are greeted by a friendly staff, waited on hand and foot. The steak is mouthwatering, you have your choice of rice or bread, plenty of iced tea, and the waitress checks with you every five minutes to see if there's anything else you'd like.

What percentage of the tab is a reasonable tip to leave?

NOTHING !

In some places it's even considered rude to leave a tip.

In Japan, you don't tip; excellent food and service is a way of life!

I love the wait staff in Japan. They all seem to love their jobs. Their no tipping culture certainly isn't a detriment to good service.

LadyE,
Wow, that was quick. Ink barely dried on this post and I'm still drooling; thinking I may have to hit one of these Steak Houses tonight !

Now that you mention it, I've never seen any rude staff, anywhere I've eaten here, not even at a McDonalds !

Damn, that's SWEET. Although I've had a lot of shitty service from people in countries where tipping isn't accepted. They need to take Japan's lead.
