Last night we were supposed to have one of those total eclipses of the moon.
That'd be the second one in a year. The photo above was taken in Okinawa, Japan JUN 16, 2011.
We loaded up a car with all kinds of camera gear, way before sunset.
That way we'd find a good spot, up in the mountains for some clear shots.
The science people were saying the best views would be from the Asia Pacific Region.
That's where I live.
The weather looked sort of like this on the way up to the mountains.
That was my first clue that I wouldn't get the photos I was planning to get.
But, island weather can take sudden turns and we had a few hours before the eclipse.
Things didn't turn out as we expected, though.
This is just a wild guess but, I'm thinking, if we'd have stayed a fifth hour in the mountains, this is sort of how the total eclipse of the moon would have looked from Okinawa, Japan.
About 9PM, after unloading all my camera gear from RyukyuRu's car, I was walking home and saw the moon peek through some clouds.
The man in the moon was probably thinking he'd see something like this.
Well, what if the dude in the moon was trying to catch a shot of us eclipsing down here ?
Maybe he got something like this. Hah !
Better luck next time.....
Did anyone out there catch the DEC 2011 lunar ecplise photos they wanted ?

I've seen a couple of eclipse photos popping up on Google+ but they didn't make me laugh as much as this post did! :) Sorry you didn't get the pics you wanted but at least we get an entertaining post.
All I saw was snow clouds
Nope - similarly disappointed! The clouds certainly got a good working out across the globe that night.
AdelaideBen,
Sorry to hear that. I did see where someone up in Tokyo caught a peek and made a , ahem-ahum sotra video.
Ryan,
Sad, such a cool event gets clouded-out. But, at least you may get some snow as a consolation prize!
Julia,
Just trying to make the best of a bad situation. I figure, no sense cryin over split milk. Heck, it ain't beer !
I'm sorry you didn't get to see the lunar eclipse. I'm in Hawaii right now and though it was raining off and on that night, I was still able to see the eclipse in full redness. But take heart, there is one coming in 2014 :)
Sherry,
Glad you got a peek, I caught the June 2011 eclipse so, probably had my quota for the year. It was a shame I missed it this time around because I had an awesome-heavy tripod for this event. Next time...
Awww, too bad, that's disappointing. Glad you caught the one in June though, it's a beautiful shot.
Laurel,
Thank you. Heck I was lucky to have one lunar eclipse in a year so, I can't complain. Three years from now, we'll probably be able to fly somewhere close to it. Er, maybe I'll have a lens that peeks through the clouds !
