UNESCO Declares Okinawan Dance Intangible Heritage Asset

For today's Travel Photo Thursday, instead of a UNESCO World Heritage Castle, I've got something even better for you. How about some real-live, breathing, moving, dancing, beautiful World Heritage asset ?

What I'm talking about here is showing off some human being-type assets. Dancing cultural assets !

Rather than me having to run around and almost fall off the seaside cliffs to show you the front and back of some cultural asset, like a castle, these treasures let me stay in one spot and turned around for me. Hah !

That's right, everybody. On Tuesday, November 16th, 2010 UNESCO added Okinawan Dance to their list as an Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

What I think everybody ought to do next is dig around and see if you have any UNESCO Intangible Heritage things you didn't know about in your neck of the woods.

Then put them on a blog and send a link to TRAVEL PHOTO THURSDAY  and show off your assets, too !

Great photos as always. Thanks for educating me about the UNESCO intangible heritage assets. I just checked them out - and they open all sorts of avenues for exploration.

Leigh,
Thank you. UNESCO does have a treasure trove of information and you'll find all kinds of surprises on their site. Maybe, you'll even become a member!

Cathy,
Actually, I found this information while searching for something else. It kinda surprised me. Somewhere along the line, I became a member of the UNESCO site but, lost my bookmark in the hundreds of other organizations I've joined. I wish somebody would hurry and build apprentice robots to take care of all the admin stuff!

Strux,
Yes, I was surprised at some of the assets I found there, too. Check the site out and you may find some near you.
