Flower Photo: The Mexican Flame Vine

This photo was taken April 27, 2008 at my home in Okinawa, Japan.

The flowers are blooming all over the front yard, again.

Five years has almost gone by so, I figured it's time I identified the plant.

The little lady in my house is one heck of a gardener.

She's always got something unusual blossoming out front and the neighbors love her flowers.

All they have to do is admire her flowers and she gives them away, free.

Well, I like to give people a name when I post a flower here.

But, this rascal has been impossible to identify.

"Where did you buy the plant?" I asked her.  She didn't.

She got the seeds from somewhere.  So I asked, "Where did you buy the seeds, then?"

She didn't buy the seeds.  She picked them up off the ground.

"Where?"

"I don't remember."

Groan.

One of my favorite resources for identifying anything, the Bird Forum, got me this ID.

Ladies and Gentlemen, We have a Mexican Flame Vine at my house !

Of course, I verified this at Dave's Garden.

The Mexican Flame Vine (Senecio confusus) is also known as an Orange Glow Vine.

It got me wondering.

Do you think Mrs. Ryukyu Mike picked up those seeds from the ground when we were in Mexico ?
